Preface

Adolfo Cartujo Gonzalez

The first memory about Soccer I have belongs to my father. I still keep, as he taught me to complete, the lovely book – album which a well-known yogurt brand published due to 1982 World Cup in Spain. Of course, it was the first contact with a book I can remember. What I can’t remember is how I learned to read, nor how I learned to play. I suppose that as a truism, I learned to read by reading and to play by playing. However, I’m completely sure that soccer encourages me to read, and reading provokes me an uncontrollable desire to go out and play at square.

If I had to connect my friend Dani with one word, this word would be moderation. A moderated person is someone “commensurate, arranged in such way that’s neither too much nor too little.” In our friendship and work within Soccer, he was always the only one capable to make the difficult easy. And once re-read this book I verify it again.

Sometimes, popular nature of soccer opens the possibility to turn it into a pseudoscience by using complex and fixed language, that suggesting only a few are holders of game secrets. Nothing could be further from the truth.

To have an idea is relatively easy or difficult. Nevertheless, what Dani achieves with this book is to make this idea into something feasible, comprehensible and thus, teachable. And it seems to me a one of those dribbles made by Iniesta without touching the ball. Beautiful because iseffective, simple and lack of ornaments but at once, so powerful as to break any waist.
